How to play True Color

See a color for a few seconds. When it disappears, rebuild it from memory and discover exactly how close you were.

How to play

  1. Study the shared target color before it disappears.
  2. Recreate it with the color, brightness and saturation sliders.
  3. Compare every guess with the target. The highest average match wins.

Match the overall impression first, then fine-tune brightness and saturation.

Before you start

Play solo or with up to 8 people. Each player needs a screen that can show the target color and the controls used to recreate it.

Estimated time for six players with default settings: About 3 min. Discussion and host settings can change this.

Voice and conversation

No voice chat is needed. Study the target and recreate it on your own screen.

Example round

The target is a muted teal. After it disappears, one player starts too blue, shifts toward green and lowers saturation. The reveal compares the recreation with the original and shows its match percentage.

A useful tip

Remember brightness and saturation as well as hue; the overall impression matters.

Remember the shade, not just the color name

“Blue” is a starting point, but the challenge is remembering which blue. Study how light or dark the target is and how vivid or muted it looks. Recreate all three qualities with hue, brightness and saturation.
